The Loud Red Patrick

By John Boruff, suggested by the novel of the same name by Ruth McKenney.

"The Loud Red Patrick" is a laughter filled, thought-provoking comedy centered around Patrick Flannagan, a widower with four daughters.  The year is 1912 and the place is Cleveland, Ohio.  Patrick is a passionate Irishman committed to women's rights, a most unusual reality in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1912, or anywhere for that matter in 1912.

His daughters have been raised by Patrick to focus on their education, go to college, and make a difference in this world.  All goes smoothly until his oldest daughter, who happens to be a lot like Patrick, has her own ideas about her future.  Patrick tries mightily to deal with his daughters ages 17, 16, 10, and 7 and they with him.

Add into this mix one charming former song and dance Irishman, one housekeeper who checks with her medium regularly, and one passionate 21 year old suitor whose father runs the local gas company, a company Patrick hates; a company which is holding back the progress of Cleveland, Ohio, by not permitting the installation of Mr. Edison's magnificent invention, electricity, into Cleveland, Ohio.

The result is "The Loud Red Patrick".
