Dreamchasers Theatre Arts Center of Norwell will present three performances of the poignant comedy STEEL MAGNOLIAS by Robert Harling. It is the quintessential story of friendship. In the haven of Truvy’s beauty salon in Louisiana, six very different women come together to share their secrets and bare their souls, throwing in a little neighborly gossip for good measure. From weddings to divorces, babies to funerals, new beginnings to happy endings, they weather every event in their lives en masse with grace, determination, and perfectly coiffed hair. When tragedy strikes, it is in the familiar comfort of Truvy’s salon where they seek the solace and support that carries them through.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS was originally presented at the WPA Theatre in New York City in 1987. It was later made into an award winning movie starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, and Dolly Parton. Starring in Dreamchasers’ production are Corinne Manning and Alice Tilles of Norwell, Lenna Dwyer of Bridgewater, Mimi Walker of Marshfield, Samantha Mushin of Cohasset, and Emily Genovese of Hingham as Truvy. All are students in Dreamchasers Play Production Class. Creating the costumes, hair, and makeup are Maggie Russell of Norwell and Sandra Holbrook of Plymouth. The technical staff includes Lisa Azizian of Hanover on Sound and Tyler Gagnon of Holbrook on Stage Crew. Kevin Doyle of Norwell does concessions. Michele Comer of Hanover does the Program. Art work and photos are by Deejay Farley of Plymouth. And directing STEEL MAGNOLIAS is Dreamchasers Artistic Director Rosann M. Weeks.

There will be a special final dress rehearsal at 4 pm on Thursday, March 11th, to which SENIOR CITIZENS and TEACHERS are invited free of charge. A discussion period between the cast, audience, and director will follow this special final dress rehearsal. Seating will begin at 3:30.

Performances are Friday, March 12th at 7 pm, Saturday, March 13th at 7 pm, and Sunday, March 14th at 2 pm. All performances are at Dreamchasers home, The Norwell Grange Hall, 142 Main Street in Norwell. Tickets are $10 for General Admission, $8 for Senior Citizens and Students, and $5 for Dreamchasers Students. Tickets go on sale at the theatre thirty minutes prior to each performance.
