FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
11/07/05 Dreamchasers Theatre
Arts Center will present four performances of the touching play “Sarah,
Plain and Tall”.
The play is based on
the book of the same name written by Patricia MacLachlan which won the
prestigious Newbery Medal in 1986 as best children’s book. The novel was
the basis for three television movies starring Glenn Close and Christopher
Walken. It has been adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette who is the
recipient of numerous playwriting awards.
“Sarah, Plain and Tall”
tells the story of Jacob Witting and his children Anna and Caleb as they
look to fill an emptiness after their wife and mother passes away. The
family lives on the prairie in Kansas in 1910 in desperate need of a
mother. Jacob begins his search by putting an ad in the paper looking for a
wife. He receives an answer from Sarah Elizabeth Wheaton of Maine who comes
for a visit, “just to see”. The play follows the development of the
relationships between Sarah, Jacob, Anna, and Caleb with humor, sensitivity,
and love.
